Private Swim

Those interested in one-on-one swim instruction may arrange times with an instructor to fit your schedule.
Fees are based on a five session minimum.

Semi-Private Swim

Those interested in one-on-one swim instruction may arrange times with an instructor to fit your schedule.
Fees are based on a five session minimum.

Adult Swim Lessons

Instructors work with students in a small group to help them overcome their fears and begin to develop basic swimming and personal safety skills. Advanced instruction is also available.

*Program members have an annual fee of $14 (individual) and $24 (family)

Aquatic Exercise Programs

Adult Masters

An exercise class with an emphasis on developing stroke techniques for fitness and/or competitive swimming. Workouts will be e-mailed and an instructor will be available for training during class times.

Water Exercise Classes

Classes consist of exercises performed in a water setting. Endurance, flexibility, and cardiovascular fitness can be improved with minimal impact on joints. Classes offered include: Aqua Aerobics, Water Walking, Aquafitness, Arthritis.

AQUA AEROBICS

When: Monday, Wednesday & Friday
Time: 8:30am-9:30am
This class utilizes both the shallow and deep ends of the pool for exercise. This class focuses on cardio conditioning as well as strengthening your core muscles.

WATER WALKING

When: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday
Time: 9:30am-10:30am
This class is primarily taught in deep water using flotation belts. The class focuses on toning the muscles. Minimal stress on joints! Thirty minutes of Water Walking is comparable to 90 minutes of walking on land!!

ARTHRITIS FOUNDATION YMCA AQUATIC EXERCISE CLASS

ARTHRITIS 1: Monday, Wednesday & Friday

ARTHRITIS 2: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday
10:30-11:30am
This class is a national program developed by the Arthritis Foundation and YMCA of the USA. It provides a safe and effective exercise program for people with arthritis. The class focus is on improving and sustaining joint mobility, muscle tone, functional endurance, and independence.

AQUA FITNESS

When: Monday, Tuesday & Thursday
Time: 5:30-6:15pm
Evening exercise class conducted in both the shallow and deep ends of the pool. This class begins with stretching to warm up your muscles then moves into cardio, muscle strength, and toning exercise.

PARENT-CHILD CLASSES (6 months - 3 years)

Parents must accompany the child in the water. Classes are designed to maintain a safe and enjoyable one-to-one relationship between parent and child, as well as allowing children to become more comfortable in and around the water.

PRESCHOOL CLASSES (3 - 5 years)

Pike

Children adjust to the water and develop independent movement. Teaches basic stroke and kicking skills, floating, pool, and boating safety. Children will learn to move independently in the water on front, back and side using flotation devices.

Eel

For children who are comfortable in the water and able to swim five meters with faces in the water using flotation devices. Children are taught to float, kick, dive and perform progressive arm movements across the pool. Water and boating safety are also covered.

Ray

For children who can swim 15 meters with faces in the water and with limited flotation. Reviews and improves stroke skills on front, back and side. Builds endurance, teaches treading water and progressive diving skills. Water and boating safety are included in the class.

Starfish

For children who can swim 20 meters on front, back and side without flotation. This advanced level refines crawl and backstroke. Water and boating safety are included in the class.

YOUTH CLASSES (6 years and up) - Boating & Water Safety taught in all classes

Polliwog

Beginner level for those uncomfortable or inexperienced in the water. Teaches basic water skills including gliding with face in water, floating and kicking. Flotation devices are used as tools to help the child learn.

Guppy

For children able to swim 20 feet without flotation. Teaches swimming on front, back and side. Children will learn front crawl with rhythmic breathing and back crawl. Will begin rotary breathing and increase endurance on back and side strokes.

Minnow

For children able to swim 25 meters on front and back without a flotation device. Teaches front crawl with rotary breathing, back stroke, side stroke, beginning breast stroke and diving.

Fish

For children able to swim 25 meters front crawl with rotary breathing, back crawl, and side stroke. Refines breast stroke, teaches butterfly, open turns and improves other strokes.

Flying Fish

For children able to swim 50 meters front crawl, back crawl, breast stroke, elementary back stroke, side stroke and 15 meters butterfly. Improves breast stroke and butterfly. Teaches water rescues, snorkeling and endurance.

Shark

For children able to swim 100 meters front and back crawl, breast stroke, elementary back stroke and 25 meters butterfly. Teaches the I.M, starts, turns and improves endurance.

Porpoise

For children able to swim 100 meters front, back, and breast stroke, 25 meters butterfly and 50 meters over arm side stroke. Improves water rescue and stroke mechanics. Teaches pre-lifeguard skills, medley and trudge crawl.

AQUA STARS LESSONS - (for youth with special needs)

Class times are Wednesday nights and by arrangement with Tracey Hazzard, coordinator (816-646-1435). Students are paired up with a volunteer instructor for one-on-one lessons. Cost is $2 per lesson for YMCA members and $3 per lesson for non members. Contact Tracey if you would like to serve as an instructor.
